Advanced Story Maps adds flexible structure and planning controls to the core Story Maps experience. The app works with Jira issues, boards, links, and fields; it does not create a separate project record.

Feature Categories

Maps and hierarchy

• Map Types: choose a dynamic map sourced from a Jira board or a manually curated static map.
• Using the App: arrange Jira issues, plan with swimlanes, update estimates, and filter a map.
• Hierarchy and Top-level Elements: configure an optional activity or goal row above the backbone.
• Multiple maps: maintain several planning views in one Jira project.
• Flexible hierarchy: configure the issue types and links used for the backbone and optional top-level activities.
• Cross-project work: include issues from more than one Jira project when the selected board or map configuration permits it.

Planning views

• Sprint and release swimlanes: assign work to the Jira sprint or version that owns it.
• Free-form swimlanes: use planning labels such as “Near term” without changing a Jira release.
• Custom-field swimlanes: organize and update supported custom-field values from the map.
• Board quick filters: focus a dynamic map using filters from its connected Jira board.

Display and output

• Configurable cards: choose which supported Jira fields appear on issue cards.
• Statistics: inspect progress and story-point totals where the underlying Jira configuration provides them.
• PNG export: save a visual snapshot of the current map.

Configure a map

Use Board Configuration to control which Jira board supplies a dynamic map, its sprints, releases, issues, and quick filters. Use Settings for the hierarchy, display, and swimlane options available to that map.

Project administrators can use the Admin Guide to control where the app is available. A user’s Jira permissions continue to determine which issues and boards they can see or change.
